Out of Tokyo comes the NetLED lighting system. Using Wi-Fi enabled tubes and power consumption technology that allows fine tuned lighting control (8 dimming levels) they report a possible reduction of power consumption by up to 90% from existing solutions.
Through a combination of their hosted cloud service and your engagement with the system though your Iphone, Ipad, and Android apps (planned) you have control of everthing from an entire buildings lighting down to a single tube. An example used in their marketing literature (PDF) "On a bright sunny day, the tubes over the desks along the window can be dimmed to a 10% lighting level while tubes over the desks along darker corridors can be set to a higher lighting level. During overtime hours, the lights over desks where people are working can be set at 100% while surrounding desks can be cut to under 20%."
The system also allows you to track your energy costs and lighting usage over time and create preprogrammed settings for announcements, emergency evacuation situations, etc.
