Ninja Blocks are wireless devices that use a combination of sensors and a backend cloud service to enable you to create “if this then that” style tasks for your world. The creators are currently looking for development funds on Kickstarter (40 days to go as of Jan 30th 2012) to be used for the first production run and to continue the creation of additional sensors and web service connectivity.
The system currently comes baked in with an accelerometer, a temperature sensor, LED lights for notifications, and four expansion ports and a regular USB port to add additional extensions and sensors. Built on an open source hardware platform and powered by either battery packs, Mini USB, or a power plug. The Ninja Blocks are connected on the backend to web services like Twitter, Email and SMS to enable a variety of physical mashup opportunities with no programming knowledge needed.
Some example tasks using the service include:
- Take a picture of your front yard and save it to Dropbox when movement is detected
- Get a notification on your phone when a package is left at your door
- If your baby is crying turn on a lamp in the hallway
