CREATE-NET (Center for REsearch And Telecommunication Experimentation for NETworked communities) is seeking a Senior Researcher in the field of Internet of Things (IoT) to work within the eNTIRE Research Area, which performs innovative multidisciplinary research on IoT communication and service enablers with specific focus on cognitive technologies. In this context, CREATE-NET is coordinating a recently funded large-scale EU FP7 Integrated Project, namely iCore (Internet Connected Objects for Reconfigurable Ecosystems). The project aims at developing precisely the cognitive management technologies for future IoT services and applications. The position will therefore give an outstanding opportunity for the candidate to work together with large industries and leading research organizations/Universities within the European IoT community.

The candidate will be mostly contributing to research activities in the context of the iCore project, namely in the area of cognitive and data management technologies and their related application to IoT (e.g. intelligent transport systems). In order to carry out such activities in a collaborative environment, it is expected that she/he will participate in periodic project meetings and regular phone conferences interacting with the consortium partners, presenting results, gathering contributions etc. Likewise, she/he will be expected to publish scholarly work in top peer-reviewed conferences and journals, besides contributing to the project planned deliverables.

Other related responsibilities include contributing to the area international reputation, funding acquisition (e.g. supporting research proposals preparation) and future development activities (i.e. liaising with other researchers in the community/relevant industry partners).

Technical skills:
The successful candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science/Electrical engineering/Information engineering, with at least 3 years of (post-doctoral) experience, preferably in areas related to Internet of Things and has adequate software/hardware implementation skills. Candidates with strong academic record and proven experience are encouraged to apply.

Scientific/Technical Skills (solid experience in at least two of the following domains)

Cognitive technologies, machine learning and pattern recognition
Data semantic representation and management (search and discovery engines)
Wireless sensor networks (knowledge about ZigBee protocols would be beneficial)

Organization skills:

Willingness to explore innovative research with IoT and to create both conceptual and practical applications for IoT
Good team work and communication skills
Autonomous thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills.
Strong analytical skills and proactive attitude to problem identification
Prioritization, time management skills and capability to adapt to dynamic environments (ability to deal with workload peaks, on-time deliveries etc.)

Languages: Excellent command of the English language (oral/written) is essential.
